Still in Ubud… still the best pancakes in the world

Still in Ubud… still the best pancakes in the world
Today we moved to Gayatri II. Nick?s has been fantastic and I will miss my tranquil cups of tea over looking the river and the small rainforest that we had pretty much to ourselves. But the rooms here are a lot bigger. From our balcony we have a fantastic view of rice fields and Ubud, with Mt Agung and the other volcanoes in the distance. This of course leads to 4.5yr old questions about why are there so many volcanoes here and if they all erupt and kill all the people will the dinosaurs come back?
<>
Valid questions I think! Ubud is growing on us again. The longer you spend here the more you think that you could live here in Bali. Apart from being ridiculously cheap for house rental for a year and eating out, the people are just so friendly and the tranquility of walking along quiet roads amongst rice fields. Food is more expensive here than ten years ago but for $20 you can feed a family of four an excellent meal at a nice restaurant, including beer and milkshakes. Its also a bit like reliving our childhood ? Paddlepop?s are 25c, lollies 6c and even Magnum icecreams are only $1.20. Do I sound old if I say I remember when Paddlepops were only 20c in Australia? The strangest change we?ve seen is that about 50% taxi drivers sitting along the road no longer as if you need a taxi. Instead they have a little sign that says ?Do you need a Taxi?. We?re not sure if they are just lazy or if local businesses have told them to stop hassling clients outside their stores so they have resorted to more subtle means like signs. As the title of this post suggests, we’re still fans of the pancakes and chocolate cake at Tutmak Cafe. We won’t be winning any parenting awards for the number of times we’ve let the kids eat there but they’re just so nice…
